Yup, in this case it is a tough decision that should come down to the price difference and hassle between putting in the cheapest re-built engine and the trade-in penalty (a dealer has told him they would give him "a real good" trade value despite the engine as they can replace it inexpensively).
Now the truck itself (Lariet) looks fantastic, not a dent or rust anywhere. He just spent $600 on detailing it - I never thought it was possible to spend that much on a detail. But I never liked driving it myself, felt clumsy and loose to me and performance wise it was no where near my 2000 GMC 2500 6.0l. (Hey, I'm buying a new 2015 F-150!) It was used by his employees a lot and I'm pretty sure they never treated it as well as he did.
