Default Does RSS (Reverse Sensing System) require the radio

I hope to replace my 2008 Lariat SuperCrew premium audio factory radio which has a broken CD player and no Bluetooth. When in reverse, the RSS beeps to let me know I'm close to an object. Does this use the radio?

It also lowers (but does not mute) the sound if the radio is in; I'm not worried about losing this feature.

Thanks!

I've replaced my head unit and no problems with the reverse sensing system. I think there is a separate speaker in the dash somewhere that beeps
