Default Does anyone run mobile one oil with a motorcraft filter?

Hey guys, just curious if anyone runs this set-up in their f150? I have an 08 F150 4.6 with 3K miles and I need to do an oil change due to the age of the oil. I was thinking about switching over to synthetic since it is on sale this weekend. Let me know if I could run a motorcraft oil filter instead of a mobile one filter because I do not think my oil filter end adapter will work on a mobile one filter as it does the motorcraft. I am currently running motorcraft oil BTW.

I run that setup and havent had any problems that I know of. I was at walmart the other day and saw that they have motorcraft oil and thought about getting it next time, not sure if I will though.

a motorcraft filter will work with ANY oil. the mobil 1 filter is just a better filter, you dont have to use it if you dont want to but rest assured it WILL work for your truck.

the only reason to use a motorcraft is the price. i buy them because its a premium filter with a $4 price tag, its not going to fit or perform any better than any other premium filter such as bosch, wix, or any other purolator.

think about the hundreds of thousands of f150s driving around with performax oil filters from quicky lube. retail price is around 1.99 so you can bet the quality is a little lacking and they are still going strong.

I have been running that exact filter and oil in ALL of my fords for well over ten years now. The Motorcraft filter is the 820S for the 5.4L and I use the Mobile 1 5W20 fully synthetic oil. Once I ran that for over 15k miles, did the oil change, and the oil was still brown, not black. On top of that I use to work for a company called FluidDynamics back in 2005 (located in Crystal Lake, IL), they test all kinds of oils and filters. They told me that the Mobile 1 fully synthetic oil was tested at 50k miles and still tested good oil. The Motorcraft filter was tested at the 70th percentile for the type of filter it is. This is the only reason I use this set up. I change my oil every 10k, just for peace of mind not because I have too. Hopefully this helps you.

You read that right SAWMAN556. With the technology of todays oils, 10k on fully synthetic is not as bad as it sounds, espacially when you drain it and you kinda feel like you are wasting money because the oil still looks good. Look at conventional oils, most you can go to 5k. Back in the day, daddy would tan your hide if you went passed 3k. But I asure you that 10k on FS is just fine.

you dont want to go past 8k with out a used oil analysis. 50k on any oil is retarded!
some conventional oils have tested good at 7-8k. but the thing is here if its not the same vehicle, driving conditions, and weather its not relevant. some engines are harder on oil than others.

food for thought: why are Mobil 1s iron numbers ALWAYS higher than other brands on the UOA charts?

you guys should do a little reading before going with extended drains

If you are running Mobil 1 Extended Performance then 10,000 miles should be fine, because it's guaranteed for 1 year or 15,000 miles. I would still change the oil filter sooner and top off the oil, because they are not rated for extended change intervals. If you are running regular Mobil 1 Synthetic then it's only recommended at whatever the manufacturer change interval is.

It takes me a year to drive 10 to 12k. Changing oil 1 time a year, and filter 2X is quite enticing. But, being in WI, with the warm/cold climate changes, the engine temperature and contaminants come into play so I don't know how any oil can last from 10 to 12k. Maybe these tests is done in a controlled environment, and driving conditions. Not one size fits all.
