Default Dodge ram vs f150

I'm looking for my first car and my dad has a dodge ram hemi that gets 8 mpg that is just way to low and I really want a truck I know that trucks don't get good gas mileage but I at least need more than 10 and I was looking up f150 and I saw that they get around 14 combined is that true, I would plan on lifted any truck that I get and I know that hurts mpg somewhat but would it be worth keeping dodge or looking at fords, I also think fords are a lot nicer in my opinion and I know this is a f150 forum so the answers may be one sided but any advice would help.

Most people around here are at the 10-14 MPG range combined with the 5.4L, 4X4, Leveled, and 35" tires or so. With stock tires, you will be on the high side around 14 MPG. But you need to remember, we are all driving 6-10 year old trucks. They are getting tired. Some more tired than others.

What year is your pops Dodge? The old Hemi's got terrible mileage. I think in 08 or so they switched and now they get much better mileage. I think they switch to 4 or 6 cylinders while cruising or idling. My brother has a 09 hemi 1500 that gets better mileage than his 06 Jeep Liberty.

Personally, I'd take a hemi ram over a 3v 5.4, but yes they do get terrible mileage. Depends on year of the dodge. Mpgs for the 5.4 literally vary all over the place depends on how you drive, along with gear ratios, tire size, all that good stuff.

Yeah then it isn't even relevant to the new Hemi's. The new ones are great for mileage and power. But if it were me, I wouldn't pull the trigger on a Dodge unless it was a Cummings. Eventhough my brothers is great.

Find a nice truck that has been well maintained and is within your budget. Remember, none of us in this Forum are driving the newest and coolest trucks. But, in my opinion, they have a timeless beauty to them. Just like the early 90s F150 regular cab short boxes, or the broncos.

Just purchased my first truck...well not really. I did buy a Ranger from a co worker just so I could move in it. I actually loved it and was mad at my self for selling it afterwards because of the great MPGs. Anyway more on topic I have a 08 V6 regular cab and when I drive more aggressive I get 14MPG. When I drive moderate and coast a lot I have gotten almost 18MPG and I am happy with that. So far I am loving my truck and when going per-owned I say go Ford all the way. Now if we were talking 2013+ I would say different....

I hear you but it is still the same V6 if I am not mistaken, 04+, unless you have the need for a lot of towing. Some times it really gets off the line well and some times it is sluggish if I am timid with it. Really for me driving something that is not low to the ground and fast is new so I need slow so that i can get acclimated.

I average anywhere from 16-17.5mpg hand calculated on my 2007 4x4 with the 5.4L engine and 3.73 gearing driving in the mountains. I end up with a similar MPG to my friend who owns a 2013 FX4 Ecoboost that averages about 16-18 mpg which is hilarious considering it's intended to be a super efficient engine with a modern 6 speed drive train while I have a vastly outdated 5.4L gas guzzler with a 4 speed auto.
