Default Digital Read-Out

Hello Again...
This one is actually for my wife's 04' Explorer XLT, not my F-150 but I figured I'd probably get the help I need from you all here! The problem I am having is the Digital Read-Out that shows the Miles, Temperature, Compass, Etc... is going weird on me whenever the vehicle first starts up cold and stays that way for about 15 or 20 minutes. The read-out is located in the instrument cluster. What it does is it will light up all different numbers/signs/just lines when it is first started cold... Any ideas as to what is going out on it or what is happening??? Thanks for the Help...

My evo did that saturday morning, it was about -5 or so, I just unplugged it and plugged it back in and it started working fine. That may not work for you but worth a shot...

Thank You for the quick response, however, I am actually referring to the digital read-out in the instrument panel. It is the factory one...

I thought it may be moisture at first but usually we get really nice weather here in So. Cali. and there is no moisture out. Sometimes it will have the problem, we will drive it for 10 or 15 minutes and it will go away then turn the truck off for 10 minutes or so and then the issue comes back for a while... I am assuming there is a sensor/sending unit that could be bad. Is this correct? Where is it located? How hard to install a new one and about how much will the new one cost?
