Default Differential whine help?

Well I was driving my 04 f150 and heard a grinding noise after I made a right turn, and stripped all the gears in the carrier, so I ripped it out and threw in a new Yukon posi unit, I reused the rack in pinion, they were both un harmed. I installed the new carrier with new bearings, and used Yukon adjustable shims, there was no issues until I started to coast them a whining started, not bad but it's there, I've heard that the pre load on the bearings can cause the whine, so I think that's it, what side should I add shims the side closest to the rack (pushing it closer to the pinion) or the opposite side? Any opinions?
