Gunk under oil cap????
So I changed the oil in my 2004 F150 XLT 5.4 today.....
As I was getting ready to pour oil into filler spout, I took cap off and noticed a yellow grease like gunk under the cap and in filler spout.
I was able to clean it all out and have not had any issues.
Just curious what the it's from
Any clues?

If you haven't driven enough miles to get the moisture out of the engine, than you get the yellow sludge under the oil cap. Happens more in cold weather, than warm. If it is really bad, could be a bad head gasket, but more than likely, just not driven enough.

Agree with Chuckster, and he is spot on. Colder weather will build up moisture if not using truck a lot or short trips. I have '03 5.4L and mine does the same thing. I have even taken mine to the dealer, and everything checked out. I keep oil changed, cap cleaned and try to use truck for longer drives in winter, even when wife would rather use Explorer......

Same thing happens in wisconsin winters when i run the truck for a good month and only make the trip to work and back and never really get the motor hot enough and work it enough.....LONG ENOUGH... to burn off all the moisture...
If I clean it up and make a long trip......all gone....
