Default Steering Wheel Vibrates Violently Above 50 MPH..Burning Smell

I have a 2006 5.4l F-150 with about 115,000 miles on it. A couple of weeks ago I notice that when I was driving on a stretch of road going about 50 MPH the wheel started to shake subtlely and then violently. It's just like when you leave your parking brake on and forget to disengage it. So I parked it at the grocery store went in and got what I needed and drove home with no vibration. When I did get home, I did notice a burning smell coming from the front end of the car. It didn't seem like it was coming from the brakes.

After letting it sit over night, I drove it for the rest of the week with no issues. So I assumed that I must have somehow had the parking brake on from work until I got to the grocery store which is plausible since traffic is so bad that I never got up to 50 MPH until I hit the final stretch home.

Then this morning after being in traffic for 1 hour, shortly after I got on the interstate and got up to 60 mph, the little vibration came back and then it became a violent shaking. Thankfully, I was near my job so I pulled in there and there was the burning smell.

I have no idea what this could be. I haven't had an alignment and balancing for a while, but then again, why would the issue go away and then come back again. Also, what's the burning smell? The only work I recently had done was an oil change and tire rotation. This is really odd.
