Diagnosing which COP has gone bad
#12
I have no clue if the plugs were changed or not. I bought the truck three years ago and it had 41,000 miles on it. I just started having skipping problems a couple months ago when I hit 80,000.

^^^My guess would be they were not changed^^^

I was thinking most likely that they hadn't been changed, there were two owners before I bought it. I'm just gonna run it for another month or so until the weather warms up. Then i'm gonna change plugs. Motorcraft SP515 correct?

Wow, 2 previous owners and only 41,000 miles? Something smells a little fishy.

I carfaxed it before I bought it and one owner had it for like 17,000 miles, then the next for 23,000. The previous owner was a soldier, and I believe that the truck didn't get driven much when he was deployed.

On my retired 2001 F150 I have gone through about 20 COP's in the past 2 years. The main one to go bad is #3 because it is right under the shower from the hood. It has gone out about 8 times. Other repeat failures were #1 and #2. I think maybe #7 repeated once also. I did change the plugs but the old ones were still in good condition.
.... Oh yes, a remark on the retirement of my 2001. I am passing it down to my son. His Explorer is sidelined for camshaft crap. He will have to replace the heater core on my 2001 before he can put it back on the road. I did supply the core and he can supply the 8 hours labor.
