Default Dealership Experiance

So as a new member thought I would share my dealer experiance and how they tried to rip me off. I took my truck in to have it diagnosed as it was missing so, after $90.00 they tell me it has a P0308 code "mis-fire on all cylinders" and it needs plugs, coil boots and a PCM reflash to the tune of $567.00 plus $45.00 for each plug that breaks. Well the code they gave me of course is only for #8 cylinder which you know. I had the same problem with my Mustang and turned out to be a coil pack, so I went to the auto parts and purchased a new coil pack for $50.00 changed it myself and problem solved. Do they think people are that stupid!!

Why pay the dealer 90 dollars to read a code when you could have it read for free at an auto parts store?

The bad thing was it was not throwing a code all the time, only when you got on it the CEL would blink for a few seconds and then stop. Auto Zone told me they could not read stored codes.

It scares me that they are supposed to be "professionals" the only thing dealers are professional at is stealing money from hard working people like ourselves. I think i will go back to the dealer and tell them my findings.

Each dealer is different. I've had good and not so good experiences.

My thoughts. Maybe they noticed potential issues with your plugs and or boots, that may not cause problems today, but give it a short time and they will. Maybe they figured it would be good to replace all items at once, instead of piece by piece?

Like, if a headlight goes out, you should replace both bulbs, not just the one that went out. When getting tires, you typically don't just buy one, you get at least 2 if not all 4.

Not saying they were right or wrong. Not saying they were trying to rip you off or not. Just saying sometimes for best results, you should replace more than just the one faulty part.

Yep there is a reason they are called stealerships. It never hurts to invest in a decent code reader. They aren't a whole lot and can be a ton of help in figuring out problems in pretty much all vehicles. Pull the code, google it and you will find other people with the exact same problem and how to fix it. They will pay for themselves in one fix.

Default dealerships

I was reading your post. I got to say that not all dealerships are the same. I work for a ford dealership. I drive an F-150.Most of our customers are repeat customers. We go out of our way to satisfy our customers and provide only what you actually need. My f-150 just hit 100,000 miles. Have had to replace only the battery.
