Glad it worked for you too. From searching the P0462 code, it seems like it is rare. The problems with perfect looking contacts is not though. Resetting is ALWAYS a 1st step. Can save you a ton of headaches and "tail chasing".

Dash lights on, Radio Not turning off, tach not working
When I re-installed I decided to take my own advice and shot a small amount of electrical contact cleaner and lube (Radio Shack) on the plugs at the top of the cluster and "reset" a number of times. The problem that had gotten even worse by the time I removed the cluster was now gone and even with driving over every pothole I could find and starting and shutting off many times, the problem has not returned, all is back to normal!
Roger,
Our shop has been working on a 2008 F-150 that is having the same syptoms that your truck had. I cleaned the cluster wire connectors and the problems went away for 1 day. When he returned I cleaned the connectors again and also added dielectric grease; unfortunately, it did not solve the problem this time around. I was wondering if your problem ever returned and if so what the final solution was. I am leaning towards replacing the Instrument Cluster.
thanks,
-DJ

DJ, it was an involved process after I last posted here but after 1&1/2 years at least, I still have NO PROBLEMS whatsoever! I had the cluster out and apart 4 times and would have given up after the 4th time but finally success, and that, permanent. I would forward the complete saga to you if you wish, but most importantly, what finally seemed to make the difference. I will attempt to PM you if it will let me.

Sorry, DJ but it wouldn't let me PM you. I don't know if it's because you don't have enough posts or what. I will try again later. It's really too much to forward here so would rather communicate off forum.

I have this similar problem. Dash trouble lights on, tach & speedometer at 0, a/c stops blowing cold. Has occurred intermittently while driving to work and recently very frequent when I start the car in the AM. Eventually lights go out and tach/speedometer/ac return to normal, ...but I found a sweet spot on the dashboard directly above the cluster that I can give a moderate smack and all issues reset to normal. When the problem comes back, I apply same smack on the dash and it is always corrected. (I also have an air bag code 42. I replaced the front impact sensor, but air bag code 42 never went away. Not sure if these are connected.) Any help would be appreciated.
