Cut vacuum hose
My wife complained of a gas smell last week when she used the truck. After searching this site and a few others I saw that loose spark plugs could be the culprit. Sure enough, I found that #4 was loose enough to unscrew by hand. So I tightened all 8 down to 25 ft lbs.
While I had the computer out I noticed that I have a severed vacuum hose - at least that's what I'm assuming it is. Can someone take a look at the picture I took and see if they have any guess on what it is and if I should fix it? 2005 with the 5.4L.

There isn't anything electrical in the tubing. I would guess it to be part of the 4x4 system like others have suggested. I'll head to the local o'reillys and pick up some rubber tubing. I need about 6" of it. Thanks!

I'm certain that my hubs haven't been engaged. I see where you're coming from though. I actually think I have more than one issue with my IWE system. I did fix the vacuum line, then I started the pickup up and took it for a little drive around the block. Turning the 4x4 HI on didn't result in the light to come on in the dash.
I think my approach will be to disconnect the lines going to the wheels and blow them out using my air compressor. Then I'll replace the solenoid and hook up the lines. Hopefully that takes care of it. If it doesn't I'll have to get a vacuum tester.
