Default Cruise Control Installation?

Hey,

New here. Just picked up a 2005 F-150XL with the V6 and 5spd maual transmission. Good, solid, no-frills truck.

I would like to add cruise control. From what I can find searching here and reading on the net, I believe all I have to do is install the switches and have the ECU reprogrammed to know it has cruise.

Is this correct or am I missing something?

Thanks,
Zukoda

The goose chase starts with getting in touch with a dealer that knows anything about this. Or, if FORSCAN can activate cruise in the computer, then you could do it all yourself.

Thank you!! The video was great and the dealer agreed to do this for me!

Thanks!

Excellent. I hear enough stories that this generation truck is all but obsolete as far as computer tweaks like this go.

Heck, I bought my friend the remote start setup for his 2014 for a birthday a few years back and we had to walk the techs through it.

I'm not sure yet, our appointment is this coming Tuesday morning. They said they'd do it, so hopefully it will go smoothly. We are installing the switches ourselves this weekend, hoping that piece goes well!

Update, we finally got the Ford dealer to update the software for us and it was $185...they said that was their minimum for "1 hour" they could charge. On a side note, I called the other cruise control installer in town that had told me I had to buy a new steering wheel to get this done and it'd be $1,000. I said, "Guess what? I got this done for $60 parts and $185 software at the Ford dealer". I actually found out through the Ford F150 forum online I didn't really have to order a new steering wheel, you guys should try this some time it would save you a lot of time and effort to not be chasing new steering wheels for something like this!!" What a rip off that was going to be.

Thank you all so much for helping me out on this deal, I really appreciate all your help!

I drive 110 miles R/T on days that I go into the office (WFH a couple days per week now), almost all expressway driving. I really appreciate adaptive cruise control. Can't wait for my BlueCruise OTA!
