I think the 5.5 looks a little sportier but the 6.5 definatley has better proprtions, and you never complain that the bed is too big!

We got ours SCREW in 2006. The long boxes came out later that year. It was super hard to find. I wanted the 6.5' box for the same reason as you. Now I live in the city and had to give up my bike and this has become our family vehicle complete with carseats in the back but I still love my truck. It has a great turning radius considering the length and I have no problems parking it even in the tight city spaces. You won't regret getting this truck!
