Unhappy 5.4l Timing Chain Replacement - In Progress Mistake

Hey all, 1st post so i apologize if I do it incorrectly. I tried searching for my problem but I think it is isolated to my because I am a dumbarse,

2006 F150 5.4l XLT SCREW 4wd 230,000miles Original owner, 1st timing job. Ordered recommended ford parts (Complete timing kit - Chain, guides, tensioners, phasers, VCTs) Have not ordered roller rockers as Im short on cash, scared I am going to regret not replacing these while Im in here)

Im in the middle of a timing job following along ford tech locos videos and just realised I f'd up. I am at the stage of removing 3 of the roller followers from each bank and the correct steps were to remove the 2 from cylinder 1, 1 from 4, 2 from 5, 1 from 8. I somehow got mixed up and removed 2 from 8 and 1 from 5. Now, I don't know what to do as I don't really understand the mechanics of the valves.

1. Do I need to replace the 3 I removed and then start over?
2. can I just continue with doing it backwards and remove 1 from 1 and 2 from 4?
3. Cry
4. All of the above
5. None of the above?

Any ideas? What am I actually doing anyways when I remove some of these and then turn the engine? Please help, Im tired and need to get her back on the road.

Removing them just makes it so there's less pressure on the camshaft so it's less likely to turn when the phaser is removed. You can just leave them out and remove the correct ones.
or you can leave them all in and carefully use vise grips to keep the cam from turning by clamping between lobes in non critical surface.
There's more than one way to skin that cat

True story,
I do not remove any of the followers
There are a couple of ways to do it correctly
I get a kick out of the W212 Mercedes procedure
I use that method on the Ford 5.4s to be safe with the interference
That Benz method is to back the crank off CCW a few degrees from #1 TDC
Then set the cams and then bring the crank back up to TDC

Thank you! I get it now. The videos didn’t explain why I was only removing specific ones, or at least I couldn’t comprehend why so I was scared I really screwed the pooch when I realized I pulled the incorrect ones. I got it all buttoned up now and though I am having new issues, this one is resolved. Thanks again! On to the new problems
