coolers
quick question:
my truck is a 04 xlt scab with trailer tow package
my trans lines land in the radiator and then i have two aux coolers
one in front of the radiator, pretty good size
and one one the x member just behind the bumper
they both look factory stock
anyone know what they are?
just wondering and too lazy to trace the lines lol

JY, Yes. Just about every vehicle with an automatic transmission runs the cooling line through the radiator. Cheap and lazy manufacturing technique, used worldwide. For those who want better protection/cooling for the auto tranny, an additional inline dedicated cooler can be added. Many manufacturers include this with their "trailor hauling package". In either case, the "normal" xmsn cooler line still goes through the radiator (unless you re-routed it yourself).
Just about any fluid COULD be routed though an "extra" cooler in a similar fashion (and some are). Oil, power steering, etc.

I bought an engine oil cooler from JEGS. Excellent kit, gret price, and easy to install. It uses a "sandwich" type disc that installs between the oil filter to route the lines to the cooler you install in the front.
I installed this cooler in the lower front of the truck as to not block the trans cooler. Whatever you do, toss the stupid plastic ties they come with to install onto the radiator; those things distroy fins on the radiator. Buy two 'L" brackets from your local hardware store to mount the cooler instead.

Heat is a factor when using petroleum base oils, see the article
I googled; do I need an engine oil cooler, diesels were mentioned
I would just maintain full synthetic oil changes
I would definitley get an aftermarket transmission cooler (larger one)
