Anyone on here use Prestone? I've mainly heard of most people going with Zerex or ford gold. Any opinions?

Never changed the coolant on my f150(part of my to-do list...). But in the past I have only used Prestone with good results. I'm subscribing to see the verdict.

For the life of me I can't remember what I used. Extended life whatever it was. When you drain you need to remove a plug. I think I used a T 50 socket, it was a bear. The plug is on the drivers side about halfway down. My engine is the same as yours.

Use MOTORCRAFT Gold concentrate Coolant from Ford. You have a mix the coolant with water, 50/50. Inless you live in extreme cold conditions or Hot conditions for the majority of the year. I had my truck flushed by the dealership, they use motorcraft gold coolant and the machine gets the fluid out of the engine and radiator.

I'm using prestone in my f150 and 04 ford explorer. Been in both of them for over 50k miles. Works fine.
I did a thorough flush tho to make sure I got all the old stuff out.

As far as fluids go, its not as good at preventing corrosion as GO5 or motorcraft gold. But it does the job just fine.

I use Motorcraft Gold or Zerex G-05 in everything. It's easily available at the Ford dealer (Motorcraft... at the parts counter...) or NAPA for the Zerex. It's what the factory uses, it's what's in the service manual to use, it doesn't cost any more to use the correct stuff, and not corrode out your heater core. Also recommend using distilled water (any grocery store...) to prevent lime and mineral buildup in your cooling system.

Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B51-A1

I found the drain and valve today. I just hope they work.... I'll go pick up some zerex and distilled water in the AM before I drain it. Our water here is ridiculously hard.

Can't go wrong with that.

Are you going to flush? I know on my old ranger, I added a little hose attachment to one of the hoses so that I could attach fresh water during the change to get all the old coolant out (just make sure you don't overheat...). Then refilled with new. Is it the same on these trucks? Or just drain and refill? I ain't going to a dealer or oil change place to change anything!
