Which Coolant 2005 5.4
Hi all,
I just wanted to clarify before buying the wrong stuff. The coolant currently in my 05 5.4 is the orange stuff, which is the VC3B right? The truck was new to me in April, so I was planning on doing a flush/fill before this winter. Furthermore, is there anything else anyone has ran in their trucks, or should I stick with the OEM Motorcraft stuff? Thanks!

The gold I bought from my dealer was $17.99 a gallon and you cut it 50/50 with distilled water ... that makes it less than $10 a gallon...

Plus how many times are you (OP) going to do this job over the life of your truck? Might as well pay $8 more a gallon and do it right.

That is my thought exactly. When the time comes that it will most likely need it again I will most likely be into a new set of wheels, so might as well do 'er right!

On the advice of a trusted dealership mechanic, I never use that orange crap in anything anymore.
It is designed to have a longer life but that also makes it much more acidic. It was to blame for many gasket issue early on in its OEM use.
There is no downside in using the green stuff, it just has a shorter life span and requires more frequent changes. But its lifespan is still plenty long.
Do what you feel is right, however no damage will come from using the cheaper green stuff.
