So searching around here I found this https://www.f150forum.com/showthread.php?t=53043&styleid=20.
This guy has a lot of the same symptoms but we do not have codes... but this would explain idling issues, spark knock, and low power. The chiltons manual said this engine uses bank 2 for ignition timing which if his chain jumped or we were off would explain 16° advance for spark timing and up 50° blipping throttle. Can anyone provide or have a link to sensor feed back operation e.g. what each sensor does? Also I'm looking for a link on timing chain replacement to see if maybe a step was missed?
Thanks

Another update,
-FPDM was a no fix
-throttle body no fix
-after finding several white sparkplugs and a few black ones decided to replace fuel injectors, no fix.
Completely lost here and looking for direction. Hopefully we can find a pcm to slave in, but in the mean time I'd really appreciate any other thoughts.

Well to all those that followed this, its a spun rod bearing. All the health signs showed a good engine. Oil pressure was good, compression, vacuum, and no overheating. I cut open the old oil filter from before all the parts changing and found a good amount of metal. Tonight we poured oil from the current filter and its also glittery. Mind you theres olny 40ish miles on this fresh oil and filter. I'm mad and embarrassed I didn't find this from the getgo. But all the health checks showed a good motor so I overlooked it.

So motor change/rebuild it is. Thanks again for all your help and offered advice.

Did you ever find out what was causing the ticking? And did the ticking start when motor was cold or after it warmed a bit. Thanks, I thought I heard some ticking crackling sounds from the drivers side in my 05 5.4 the other day. I thought something was hung up under hood, like paper. Checked nothing like that. Thanks for the reply, good luck on the problem in yours.

The ticking was a leaking exhaust flange from the dealers shoddy work of putting on his new catalytic converters. We actually took the motor out due to excessive metal in the oil. All the bearings were trashed, piston to bore clearances way out of tolerance, and just overall oil starvation damage. Odd thing is it had good oil pressure.... So we found the knocking(trashed bearings and pistons). The stalling/no power was the left cam advanced a tooth or so too much. Off to the machine shop now. So we will post carnage pics soon.

Default Findings and final fix.

So after tearing apart the motor we found crank bearings and the cam shafts to have evidence of oil starvation. Also the piston to cyclinder clearances were out of tolerances. We ended up replacing cams, crank, pistons, rings(+.030), with the metal in the oil we also went to the extent to tank the block blowing out all the passages with air. cleaning all the heads and oil passages. With the oil contamination we replaced all lash adjusters and another new sent of tensioners as well. So pretty much a whole engine rebuild with extensive cleaning of all oil passages and now she is running great. No idead what may have caused this but pretty crappy with only 57,000 miles. Hopefully no future problems.

Default Other work done

I almost forgot to mention also that we have installed the cam phaser lockout as well. Before we tore apart the motor we also did a compression check and bank 1 were all at 210 psi. bank 2 read 195,185,190,195. We think that this may have been cause by the timing being slightly off. I have read on here and many other places online how important it is to be right on the timing to prevent damage to the engine. I know a guy who is an engineer for FORD and he informed me that you can be up to 3 teeth off with the timing before any damage will occur. so you do get a little play. Another thing we did to help aid the engine was that we installed a new high pressure for racing oil pump. If anyone has questions about our work or t/s please feel free to ask. I know what it is like to be fustrated and chasing down problems.

Excuse my ignorance, buy how/why would a bad crank bearing cause stalling when put into gear? Doesn't make sense to me, but then again, I'm old school and these electronically controlled vehicles still baffle me. Glad your problem is finally fixed after so much down time and money spent.

My fault with the bad communication. The bad crank/bearing was making the knock noise and making metal. We believe the stalling/bad idle may be contributed by the timing process. We think when we did the phaser lockout we may have been off a tooth with the timing. Easy to happen when engine still installed. Process a lot easier when engine is on a stand
