Why do you think it's a popular tradition for mechanics to scream about how terrible engineers are? It's a very common occurrence with any modern vehicle to bump into something one would consider a 'stupid design choice'. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but in this particular field the 5.4 3v engine is hardly note worthy*. There are tons of vehicles that are way more cramped and terrible to work on.

Edit: *Barring the Cam Phasers/Spark Plug issues, I was mainly referring to the sort of 'stupid design choices' that make working on the engine a pain.
