Default Compass always shows North, wont calibrate

I have a 2006 XL with a cluster I swapped from an 07 XLT. I have the OAT display working but the compass only shows "N" no matter which way the truck is facing. Trying to set the zone or calibrate the compass doesn't work, it only flashes the no input dashes for a moment and goes back to showing "N". Any ideas on what could cause this and how to fix it?

Are you taking about the reset button on the box behind the rearview mirror ?

Since it's a XL it probably doesn't have the compass. So it doesn't work.

As part of the cluster swap I installed an electrochromic mirror with the attached compass module. The compass data lines are connected to pins 15 and 16 on connector 220A.

I would think its a faulty compass module but when the unit is disconnected the dash shows two dashes in the compass position (indicating no connection) and displays "N" when connected, so the cluster is obviously getting data from the unit. However, the cluster wont let me set the compass zone using the trip reset button, but will change to the two dashes then back to "N" after holding the button down. If I press the button on the compass box it doesnt acknowledge that its being pressed at all.

All the wiring checks out OK, as long as the wiring diagram wasn't wrong. Any suggestions on what to check next?

I figured it out and figured I should post it here for future reference.

The pins I used for pins 15 & 16 on C220A were from a spare C220B pigtail. These pins made intermittent contact causing bad compass data to be sent to the cluster, replaced with 2 different pins and all is working as it should.
