Exclamation Cold air intake suggestions?

I just bought a 2006 FX4 with 40,000 miles on it, my first vehicle. I just installed a magnaflow 16616 side dump exhaust and want to install a cold air intake to help my fuel mileage and air/fuel ratio. I'm relatively new with dealing with trucks so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on good brands or whether it will even help installing one. Anything info would be a great help.

I'm thinking about going with a Volant CAI with a ram air scoop

Why do you think you need to help your a/f? Stock runs pretty steady around 14.6/1, with a stock tune we can see some seriously dangerous a/f. We've seen a stock tune with a CAI throw a 19/1 a/f, that's scary lean. Search the Gotts mod first. The mod gives pretty much the same benefits for much less cost. If you do decide that you just have to have an aftermarket intake, get custom tunes to make sure the proper a/f is maintained.

I've got the Volant, and I love it! My intake air temps are 1 degree above ambient temp when cruising with it....The S&B intake is also a good one from what I gather... If you do get a CAI then you should really get a tuner like an Edge or SCT to avoid the lean condition the stock tune with a CAI could give you.... If you do anything to these motors like a CAI, Supercharger, turbo, headers, throttle body, basically any motor mod aside from the gotts mod, then you will likely need a custom tune or a tuner at the very least.... Check out www.Gopowerhungry.com for custom tuning info..

I might go with the gotts mod since it's such a low cost fix. I was concerned about more air exiting through the exhaust since It has twice as much area to escape now.

There's not more air entering or exiting the system. It's still a naturally aspirated motor. At X rpm it can only draw in Y volume of air. The 5.4L can only draw 381 CFMs at peak rpm, and the stock air box and exhaust can flow beyond that. For the intake and exhaust side, it's about reducing restrictions and keeping the power band in a usable range not more or less air.

You'll have to forgive my ignorance on the topic. I just want to maximize the performance of the vehicle. I needed a truck for work but still want to try and get decent gas mileage. I have 360 mile round trip to college, about 65% of the trip consists of cruising the interstate at around 70 MPH, the remaining 35% of the trip consists of 55 MPH roadways. I just want to try and save some money and have been told a performance exhaust and intake system would help with gas mileage.

Does anyone know a good air intake system for a 2007 5.4 v8. I want extra power and save on gas. Budget is around 280. Is there any good ones for that price??
