Default Cold Air Intake Options

Hey guys! So I recently acquired my 2004 Ford F150 2wd with the 4.6L V8 in it. I know that installing a cold air intake on my truck will improve performance and it is something I am interested in doing. I was wondering what brand or model of intake should I buy to get the best of price/result? If you have one, please let me know what it did for your truck!

I have the K&N cai but I want to get the Blackhawk K&N so check out both. The black hawk is little pricey but it will last a long time !

stock intake is more than enough unless you plan on supercharging. However the snorkel piece on the driver side front fender can be replaced with a piece of shaved 3" pvc and a coupler for a little extra hp plus a drop in filter, will net you the same as a cold air intake. Look it up, it's called a gotts mod, and im pretty sure its been dyno proven.

^^^Agreed 100%. Do the "Gotts mod" and a quality drop in dry flow filter such as AEM or Amsoil.

Cold air intakes and high-performance filters are good for improving full-pedal engine power. That means that you are buying a modification that helps you pass (at full-pedal) or race. It will NOT improve mileage. The ECM controls the air to fuel ratio and to increase mileage you would have to have more air and use less fuel, more air = more fuel = more power = more speed..

What many people don't realize and what many others simply forget to consider is that there is a throttle valve connected to your gas pedal that is constantly restricting the air flow into the engine. The only time it is not restricting the airflow is when it is wide open throttle. So unless you are driving around all day with the pedal to the floor, a cold air intake or performance air filter will do nothing but make more noise giving the allusion of more power.

^^WOW really? Show me a picture of this "throttle valve" that is connected to my gas pedal. I want to check mine to see if it is functioning properly.

Lol. I want to see one to. I believe what he is trying to describe is the throttle butterfly or throttle blade.

Lol that's what I'm thinking too, however, the butterfly is far from the gas pedal, its part of the TB. Not bashing, it was just worded a bit off par lol

Just do the Gotts mod.. I used a pasta sauce can that was just over 5 inches long, and a 3 inch clamp.. Cost me about 3 bucks all together? Saved the money I was going to buy my S&B CAI with and purchased a Edge EVO. 300 bucks into a CAI won't make our 4.6's any faster.. Just rock the GOTTS!
