Coil On Plug
My 2004 4.6 has a miss in it and I am at 170k I do not know when last or if this truck has had a tune up. No codes are pending or no CEL light on, I want to go ahead and change all COP and plugs. I was on Amazon looking for a good price on a set of 8 ( I can not afford to pay the dealer $800 just for parts. Nor would I pay that even if I could afford it) I was looking at these , are they a good choice? Any other brands? Should I stay Motorcraft? I also found AC Delco. ( This confused me as It is not a Bowtie) Thanks for any advice.

My recommendation is to stay with Motorcraft. I personally have noticed no gains by spending the extra money on high end aftermarket coils. Had a coworker try several different types on his Lightning... No significant change in spending the big bucks. The reason you see AC Delco is because they're a parts label just like others. You could possibly even find AC Delco plugs for your ride no matter the brand.

I went with an inexpensive set off ebay ~$60 for all 8. They've been in for about a year now with no issues. I made sure they were all copper ( some showed internal pics ) and figured if they were junk I was only out 60 for all not 80+ each. And the gamble has payed off so far. Good luck

Thanks! I wasn't looking at it so much as a performance piece. More of a dependable but less expensive route. They had some Accel there cheaper but 10% of the purchases had failed on install and failed within 180 days, so I shied away from that one. They have even cheaper ones ($60 for a set of 8) that have about the same reviews on them. The MSD do not have as many purchases / reviews and only 1 "bad" review where there was a failure after 3 years. I think there was a Motorcraft that would be closer to $310 for a set.

Have you tried cleaning the throttle body? At times a rough idle/miss can be improved greatly by doing that.
I have been using the Accel coils for a while now with no problems. You said you do not like the Accel coils so I think the MSD coils will work out fine. I would stay away from the cheap coils. They remind me too much of Harbor Freight tools.

I will also clean the throttle body, since it should be part of a tune up anyway. I have only had the truck for 10000 miles. A little less than a year. I would like to do the Tune Up just to have piece of mind. And since it is a pain to get to #4,5,and 8 I would rather do it once and be done, that's why I'm not doing just plugs and boots. I personally do not have a problem with Accel, just looking at the reviews on Amazon makes me iffy.

I just cleaned my TB and my MAF, the shudder is still there at idle so it is still most likely a miss, and needs plugs at the least ( BTW the TB was very nasty.) I really wish that it would throw a code, or at least put one in pending, but since it isn't, and I do not know when or even if a tune up has ever been done to this truck, I ordered the MSD coils as they are half the price of MotorCraft. They seem to be a more reputable brand than the others I found. Plus they are red, why not throw some color into the engine bay?
I am usually an OEM guy, but buying dealer price is way out of line at 91 each, and the best price I found online was 309 for a Motorcraft set, these will do. I think later down the line I will take it in to get an intake cleaning, as the gooey deposits looked to go all through behind the TB. I really was not going to go through taking the intake off today to clean all of it. I dont really know if those services are worth it but it cant hurt right?
Thanks for all the comments today and help. We will see how this turns out.

Your point is not valid....he can get all 8 MSD for $170 shipped. Or spend over $400 for Motorcraft. He can go through 2 sets of MSD and still be under one set of Motorcraft. He isn't spending "extra money or big bucks" by saving 50% off the cost of Motorcraft. Did you even click on his link?? He also stated it isn't for performance but merely for replacement.
