Coil bracket broken on valve cover!
Hi, I have a 2005 King Ranch and just started having very rough idle.
Felt like a misfire to me so I floored it and got the error code on cylinder 4. So I go in there to check it out and I find the coil is loose and the part you screw into on the valve cover to hold it is on the coil.
I guess the previous owner forgot to mention it was broken and used silicon to hold the coil in.
Of course its the hardest coil to get to, does anyone know a good solution?
Should I just get a whole new cover or try to repair it with JB weld steel stik?

If you can clean the parts really good, JB Weld might do it. Aluminum is funny stuff from an oxidation standpoint. Bare aluminum grows an oxidation layer almost immediately and things don't want to stick to it. That's why it paints so poorly without a zinc-chromate base coat. I would try it, if it fails then its removal time. At that point you might look at having it welded as opposed to replaced, unless a new cover isn't too expensive. Have you priced one yet ?

Thanks for the reply...
I have only found some used ones on ebay, price is between $45 - $75. I want to find a new one to make sure its a good deal on the used cover. Don't really want a used one tho.

The coils do not screw into the valve cover...they screw into the manifold.. and the silicon you mention may be dielectric grease which is required at the boot ends to keep moisture out.

The coils definitely screw into the valve covers on my 05 5.4. If you pulled the valve cover, even just a few quick tack welds would hold the "leg" back onto the valve cover without a problem, I think... if you have the capability to weld aluminum at your place.

Must of been thinking of my Son's 5.4 2V ...they bolt to the manifold ...just looked at mine ...they do in fact bolt to the valve cover as stated.
Sorry for the confusion...

thank you for all the replays. I don't have a welder, but have a friend with one. I'll try the jb weld Friday and if that doesn't work I'll see if my friend can weld it on.
Can't stand the misfiring.
