Code P0174 and P0300
So I spent some money today. They said I had two codes scored, PO174 and P0300. The P0174 is Lean Bank Number 1. They tell me that because I used an aftermarket oil filter that some of the filter has disintegrated and lodged itself in the oil passages causing random misses on #2 and #6 cylinders as well as engine noise. They said the P0300 is a random misfire and they had to reprogram the computer and run a software upgrade to fix the problems. So can anyone tell me if this sounds right. I fail to see how an aftermarket oil filter affects spark plugs.

P0174 is system too lean on bank 2
P0174 refers to P0171 (lean on bank 1) for possible causes. P0171 lists about twenty possibilities, the only oil related items listed are air leaks at the dipstick.
P0300 is random misfire, none of the listed possible causes are computer related.
Sounds like someone is trying to get you to pay for a warrantied repair.

Oil filter?! Really?! I understand the oiled air filters messing with the MAF but not an oil filter...
I had the same problem with my Jeep... running lean and fowling out my spark plugs (causing miss fires) and causing my O2 sensors to stick lean... Turned out to be a glob of wires melted behind the engine... I chased that problem for MONTHS!!!
