A piece of perfectly cut electrical tape takes care of that TPMS light.

Probably get more answers and maybe the right one if you select the right year group for your truck, this is the 2004-2008 section. Good luck on you search.

Because of this, if you put a Lariat or King Ranch cluster in any othor Ford truck model (I.E. XL, STX, XLT, or FX4), the AC compressor will not activate when you press the AC button on the dash (manual climate control models). The orange lamp on the AC button face lights, but the AC compressor is not "on". This is aparently due to the Lariat models having a seperate display on the dash (programed through the cluster) for inside temperature reading, as well as they have a cabin temp probe in the dash (to the right of the steering column; horizontal slots in the dash). It enables/disables the AC compressor based on the temperature setting you set for the AC or heat range. The XL, STX, and FX4 models do not have this. Some folks have reported having the slots in their dash, but the temp probe is not there; only "fully" equipped on Lariat and King Ranch models.

So, any cluster from any model can be used in any 2004 to 2008 except the Lariat and King Ranch; a Lariat or King Ranch cluster can only be used in a Lariat or King Ranch. A cluster from an FX4 or XLT are the best choice for STX models. You could install an XL or STX cluster in an FX4 or XLT, but you'd loose the tach; why you'd want to do that would be beyond me, unless you were wanting to show a lower mileage display. Can you say fraud?!?

If you were to install a Lariat or King Ranch cluster in a model other than a Lariat or King Ranch, all the gauges and icon cluster lamps will work, but your manual AC will not (AC compressor will not activate).
I know this has come up and I have read every post but I still am not sure.
I have 06 xl, I just put 07 lariat gauges in and the a/c doesn't work, I knew it wouldnt. I don't have the command buttons to toggle through the gauge info, but i was wondering if getting the asbuilt data onto the new gauges would that be enough to make the a/c work? I'm going down to get cruise control turned on and was hoping to knock the a/c out too.
This is my interior, you see why I want the Lariat gauges.

The dealer is reflashing the PCM for your cruise to work, not the cluster. I tried having the cluster as-built data transferred from an STX to and FX4 (from a professional with 30+ years cluster/dealership experience) to get my dome lights and door ajar function working and could not make it work(although we did get the temp and compass working minus having the sensors installed). It freaked the cluster out, so we had to put old data back into cluster. The guy that worked on my truck believes is it the way the cluster communicates to the PCM is why certain functions will not work. A dealer will not do this transfer, they hire and outside source.

I do have Fx4 gauge's for sale in the trades and sale section that will work your ac.

I just did this swap and here are some issues I had (05 XLT -> 07 FX4)

TPMS light going off in the cluster - cover the light easy fix
Background light for odometer no lit - maybe a bulb (i'll try swapping it out)
Auto door locks - Seems like my door locks no longer lock when truck in motion

that seems about it. Looks a lot better though..

You need to find a cluster that is from a truck in the 04 to 05 years. 07 Ford used TPMS, and in 05 they didn't plus 07 Ford changed a lot of the switches, climate controls etc. Find a cluster from a 04 05 truck and your problems will be solved. Trust me i know, I went through 3 clusters before I figured this out. I have recently finished converting my XLT into a full Lariat packed including steering wheel controls, memory/heated seats ans electronic climate control, after originally starting with FX4 cluster

Everything pretty much works now except the auto door lock. Light behind odometer was just s a bulb. Covering the tpms light was easy. So besides the no auto for lock when truck is in motion everything works. I have manual ac so no issues there with the cluster and climate control.
