Most XLTs had a tach as well. Primarily the auto XLs and STXs that had no tach

What all is involved for these to function on a XL? Is some of wiring present? Would be nice for all those things to work if I go to the sport/FX cluster.

What would be required is for you to sell the XL, and buy a Lariat, FX, or Harley model!

The PCM/ECU signals are used for some, and none of this is programmed or flashed for it in an XL.

You can add the temp sensor out front by your radiator (the harness is there), but the temp reading in the clusters info center still will not work. As to the MPG, MTE (miles to empty), and so on, again, all that comes from various inputs off of the PCM/ECU module, and none of these are flashed in the XL's or STX's.

Well I wasn't talking about the Lariat, Harley, Limited, etc. I know the MPG and message center stuff would be a PITA.

I was more interested in the FX/Sport cluster that just has the outside temp and compass functions. I was wondering if those things specifically could be added without too much hassle.

Default 2004 xlt to fx4 cluster swap problem

Sorry to revive an old thread. I'm just looking for some help. My xlt cluster has multiple problems with dome lights flickering on and off, brake light coming on and temp gauge maxing out. I bought a 2007 fx4 cluster on eBay and had dealer program and install. Worked great except the accessory delay relay is cycling on and off. when the gas pedal is not pressed and truck is at idle it works fine when idle is above 1300 rpm accessory delay relay works and radio windows and ac have power. Let off the gas and rpm drops below 1300 and above 800 and relay opens turning off power to radio windows and ac. Dealership told me it was a cluster problem. Bought another and installed without programming it and it does the same thing. Anyone have any suggestions? Wiring diagrams so I can install a relay off the ignition to keep the accessory delay relay energized when key is on?

I may have posted this before but I replaced the stock instrument cluster in my 2004 STX with one from an FX4 along with the steering wheel and everything worked perfectly.

What year of fx4 cluster did you use? I was wondering if it may have been because I didn't use a year 04/05 cluster

Thanks. I'm thinking I'll order a 2004 Fx4 cluster and see if that works. If not I will have three cluster for sale on eBay. Thanks for the info
