i bought a cluster from an fx4 for my stx. months later and everything works fine. seat belt still even chimes at me. i found it on ebay with 200 more miles on it than my truck at the time so i waited until i hit the exact mileage of the cluster and swapped it in. did the blue leds at the same time.guess i got lucky with the mileage

Everything works??? Everything in the clusters information center??? If so, please share in how you got the outside air temp to display on that clusters information center, and the miles to empty/miles per gallon displays to work with your STX that never had it. I had one of those clusters in my 2005 STX; its a purty one; all the guages work, but my overhead lights did not work, and nothing in the information center worked. This of course assumes that the cluster you used did not have a dealer flash performed.

Not to pick, but when it comes to cluster swaps, you have to be specific when describing what works, and what does not.

sorry youre right, what i meant was what everythig was talked about in this thread about what works and which clusters works is what i meant by it all works. Like mentioned earlier in the thread, no the temp does not work. I just meant the other things that were claimed to work, worked for me when i put the fx4 in my stx. Just to reassure people it would work in their truck also. I see a lot of talk about the XLT in the STX so i just wanted to share that the fx4 works in mine. My overhead lights do work. Not when i open the door, but when i shut the truck off the lights come on and of course i can switch them on. Not sure about when using power door locks or anything because mine are manual.

Cool. Just wanting to be sure that folks understand or know what to expect whenever they do a cluster swap. This thread gets dug up from time to time, so when it does, hopefully they read through all the posts.

I've done 3 different cluster types in the past for my 2005 STX, and one with my current 2007 STX: a lariat, an FX, and the XL/XLT (from a manual trans truck). I thought the Lariat was "classy", but I never saw any of the information center functions work except for the trip odometer. And no interior lights when the doors where opened.

Then I switched to the FX; very "agressive" and sporty looking, but again, lost the information center functions and lost the interior light function when the doors were opened.

Finally decided that all I really I wanted was a tach, and that the XL/XLT trucks equipped with a manual transmission had the identical cluster information center as my STX, and with a tach. Badda bing, badda boom; it all worked! Interior light works when the doors are opened, the information centers simple "door ajar" works, and all was good.

So, if you don't care about the interior lights not coming on when the doors are opened, or if you are not bothered by dash marks that appear in the information center ("----"), then choose any cluster and install it.

I created a Google Doc that will hopefully when its finished help people with their questions regarding the many clusters for the 2004-2008 F150. From what I could find the main problems people run into on these clusters is (Trip1, Trip2, Odometer Light, Door Ajar MSG, Interior Lights, Outside Cargo Light, and AC) AC being of course only the high end Lariat, King Ranch, Harley Davidson and I believe a few FX4 models with Auto Air.

Id like to fill in my chart, but I honestly don't have all the answers to do so. The result would be a YES / NO under each section. I didn't put Lariat or King Ranch, since I figured that's the top tier anyhow, so why downgrade. If I got anything wrong or should change something let me know.

I couldn't edit the doc.

I can tell you that everything on the FX4 cluster or Mark LT works fine in an XLT truck.

So i just found an 06 FX4 cluster gauge locally for $75, great condition.. but it has 40k less miles than what's on my truck.. i contacted multiple Ford dealerships near me and none of them will perform the flash. So i called my local speedometer tech location and they want to charge me $250 to perform the flash. SCREW THAT!

I'm hip!

Shop around; you may find one that will require you to ship them that cluster, along with a notorized paper stating the true mileage. When I had one done, the guy did it for $85.00.

x2

My Ford dealer said he could have authorized the mileage change if I had brought it into them when I swapped it out.

Ask how much a notarized mileage change would be, instead of changing it

Sorry about that, I think I can only allow others to edit it if I have their email. I wouldn't mind doing that if it helped others.

On another note.. still not pulled the trigger on a tach cluster for myself yet, Ive not found the "ONE" yet.
