Clunking brake pedal
Hi I have a 2004 FX4 Screw 5.4. Just yesterday I noticed that when I ever so slightly touch the brake pedal while hitting a bump I can hear a clunking in the firewall area and actually feel it through the brake pedal. Never had this happen before and it does it on every single bump. I can even hear the firewall noise when hitting large bumps sometimes. Never heard of or experienced anything like this before. Anyone have any ideas to what this could be?

So you are hitting the brake pedal on every single bump.. Or it does this when hitting bumps and not on the brakes..

it does it when I'm pressing the brake pedal. IE going down hills or slowing to a stop any bump even the tiniest ones I can feel and hear the clunking in the brake pedal feels like something is loose somehow. sounds and feels like its in the brake booster... brakes work fine still but this feeling in the pedal in very odd.

I would pull the front tires and inspect the calipers and all bolts.

i will be pulling tires and checking everything tomorrow but noticed on my way home today that just coasting down a slightly bumpy road today with out touching brakes I could hear and feel clunking in the firewall/brakepedal area...

I second checking all the bolts on the calipers and around the rotors. I would also think to check the brake pedal itself, I suppose the whole assembly itself can become lose from the firewall. I know there is an issue with the gas pedal doing this, so id imagine the brake pedal being the same story.

so I have inspected all aspects of the braking system and didn't find anything out of the ordinary. All calipers are secure and pedal mechanism to the firewall seems tight as well. I'm now wondering if it could be vacuum or abs related... as I have previously stated if I drive down a bumpy road I can feel and hear a loose sounding part of the brake system coming from the firewall area... anyone know of a test that can be performed to the booster or such to see if it is the problem?
