With the low amount of clearance though, I think I need to purchase some ramps, get the truck up in the air another foot, and then tackle the job. any words of wisdom to share on this job? btw, while I would be changing these out, since I am already getting dirty, is there a recommendation on other suspension or stability items that could/should be swapped out? Truck is at 98,000 so I assume perhaps other items will be wearing out soon..
Upper control and ball joints and lower ball joints, and tie rod ends, check them for play. Possibly your struts, that's what was making my most recent clunk sound.

I found my spare tire will make a clunking sound going in and out of my driveway if it's off center or even remotely loose, it needs to be cranked up nice and tight!

x2. This sound had me scared a minute. And then I realized discount tire didn't raise it right. It was off center and everytime I hit a bump or pothole it would rattle free and swing a little.

...just found the transmission filter laying in the pan. Clunk/rattle had been driving me bat-silly for over a month...
