Default Clockspring Warranty Recall

Hey everyone,
Was just talking to my dealer here and they mentioned that there was a recall on the clock springs in our trucks. Mine was done without me even knowing, but thought I would share the info that I got. Don't know much more than that.

Any idea if it impacts all 04-08 models? Or only those between certain build dates? My VIN on the Ford site still states no recalls issued for my truck. Never received a letter either.

My vin didn't show anything either, I can't find a freaking thing about it, I'm solely going off what my dealership said, I know I wasn't charged for a clock spring so it would of had to be under warranty or a recall. They said it was for all 04-08 but didn't go into too much detail...but yes, I could not find anything and still can't...maybe its a TSB or whatever those things are that they release only to dealers so they don't have to go public with recalls and look bad..

I believe its the peice on the airbag they replace the harness with one that has a mesh cover to prevent possible chaffing which in turn could shoot the airbag at you unexpectedely i never recieved nothing either but seen it on a carfax report and had it fixed its easy to do yourself just unbolt airbag cover and unplug then replug and rebolt

The "clockspring" is a coiled ribbon wire that allows the steering wheel controls, air bag, and horn button to connect to their respective electrical connections and allow the steeering wheel to rotate left to right. They refer to it as a "clockspring" because it looks like a wound up spring when the steering wheel is turned to the far right, and uncoils when the wheel is turned to its far left; this action takes on the characteristics of an old clock that ran off a wound up spring. At one time all this wiring had to route through the center of the steering column, making it very difficult to replace the wire if it failed. With more controls added to a steering wheel (radio, hands free), the wiring increased. With a "clockspring" ribbon type wire harness, it can be replaced more easily by removing the steering wheel.

My 05 FX4 was also recalled for this a few years ago. It was a quick repair.

If your airbag light comes and stays on u need to get the clock spring replaced my 04 was lik that but my dads wasn't and it still got recalled. And just an FYI if u get the recall paper in the mail all u hav to do is tak it to ford and show them, they replace free of charge. That's how all recalls work.

That would certainly suck to have the airbag pop out and smack you while driving down the road.
