Cleaning XLT chrome Package Wheels
#12
I also have the 18 inch xlt wheels and I was having this same issue do to brake dust because the brakes on these trucks definitely do suck. So, I was trying various products trying to get the crap off before I thought it would eat into the rim and stay there for good. I'm eventually getting new rims but still don't want the stockers to look terrible. So one day I decided to use bug and tar on the wheels. I never used it on wheels before but figured what the hell nothing else worked. I found out that this actually works pretty damn good. It amazed me that it took every bit of the black specs off. It definitely took a long time on each wheel but I was happy with the outcome. Just let the bug and tar sit to work its magic. I also waxed the rim after to try and reduce the brake dust build up. Now I just try to keep up with cleaning everytime possible. Its a pain in the *** but well worth it. Hope this helps you out.

Im pretty sure ford wont step up and hand out new wheels. There going to blow us off like they did with the real chrome wheels witch is why they come out with plastic ones.Has anyone priced the covers or do we need to buy the whole wheel?Ive already gone to battle with ford on this one with my wifes 04 explorer limited finish pealing off but its all my fault says ford I didnt keep them clean ha ha I clean and wax more than most people.

X2 on the Never Dull, it comes in a silver can looking container and looks like white cotton with grit in it..Tear a small piece off and rub it on the infected area and you will see a wax like haze form on the rim..Let it set for a few minutes and buff it off with a clean rag, repeat this a couple of times and the rims will be good as new..if that doesnt work X2 on being SOL!

Autosol. Kills breakdust or any other thing on your rims. comes in a tube. Might find it at an autoparts place or anywhere that sells fine dinnerware. It takes a bit of time but will work better then claybar in some case's. I used to keep a tube in my work box when i was detailing.
