Default Cheap foglight DIY mod for bumpers w/o factory lights

For you guys without factory foglights I found a neat project. I recently put on a bull bar that required me to remove the skid plastic from under the bumper as the bull bar would not fit with it on. Removing the plastic reveals 2 perfect mounts for some neat looking foglights.

I painted the mounts black so they wouldn't stand out so much. The foglights bolted on through the center hole and fit perfectly. All you need to do is wire it up. I attached my wiring diagram if anyone needed. $10 for paint, $10 for foglights (amazon prime). Also used miscellaneous wire and electrical connections I had lying around. Easy Peasy.

That looks great, but how is the output? You executed nicely BTW. I almost didnt comment because I hate bull-bars, but you pulled it off nicely, kudos to you!

My only observation is the angle of the fog lights; they appear to be pointing to the left/right of the road, and not straight ahead.

Perhaps a longer bolt/nut on the outer side of each with a tube type spacer to align them straight? Plastic tube spacers at any hardware store can be easily cut to get a straight ahead alignment.

Kudos for the correct way in which you wired them!

Output is decent, they are cheap lights that kinda act like the daytime LED's that newer cars have but just a tad bit better. Haven't really tested them out on a night drive yet however.

The angle is definitely leaning a tad toward left/right of the road. As you said you could easily put a spacer or wedge between the light and bracket mount to get them more centered. I figured I'd give the wide angle a try just because I'm a tad lazy and that's how they ended up. It may improve the peripheral visibility and I figured I might like that anyway.

Additionally, a bit of brake line works great for a pressure spacer (I use it all the time in kydex holsters as an adjustment spacer for adjusting retention).

I'd like to see how the beam is formed, as well as the output, whether it's a spot with a little flood or a direct flood. Fogs are meant to "fill in" where your headlights don't shine, so underneath and close to the front of the vehicle, so you can see road markers when visibility sucks. If they're putting a wall of flood light, that's no good when you need them.

I have a Westin bull bar on my 06 and didn't have to remove the plastic. Attachment 457992 that's strange that you had to remove yours but it must be because of the brand.

I couldn't open your attachment but if you had tow hooks through the bumper that may be the case too. You probably would have had holes in the plastic for the bar. I took a look at an Aries youtube installation with the same bumper as mine and they actually cut holes in the plastic to install. I was fairly confident in myself that any holes I would cut would look horrendous so I just took the whole thing off haha.
