drain pan
remove pan
remove filter
make sure gasket surfaces are clean.
reassemble with new gasket and filter.
check fluid level while in gear and cycle through all gears.

remember the gasket is reusable..... the trans holds 13.9 qts of fluid and dropping the pan dumps 5qts, so it would probably be more cost effective to get a trans flush done at a shop and get 95% of the fluid changed instead of 36% with dropping the pan, if you are intent on changing the filter get the flush done first then drop the pan and change the filter.
