Default Changing rear gears only

I'm sure this was covered....i just can't find the thread

I have a 2008 4x4 5.4 with 3.55's...I really want to change my gears to 4.56's but since its the summer i really only want to do the rear......but i know if i don't do the front now i might not until tax time next year....

How bad would i mess up my front gears if i only changed the rear gears??

Take the front drive shaft out.

That's the safest way that way you don't forget. I've seen some people refuse to take it out and they forget about the gear difference and it tears up their t-case.

if you change just the rear gears and use you 4 wheel drive you will destroy your front dif / transfer case / transmission because your differentials will be moving at different speeds, that transfers into the transfer case and into your tranny and there is no way to adjust for that difference. YOU WILL BREAK SOMETHING!!!!! I would highly recommend not doing the gear swap until you can afford both. but if you do choose to do the rear only I would do as previously stated and pull the front drive shafts. don’t even chance it.

As long as you do what was mentioned above...remove the front shaft you will not hurt anything.

If you can't afford to do both sets, you probably shouldn't be doing the first set.
