Next time you change the filter, put it on by hand then tighten it 1/2 turn tighter with the filter wrench, then loosen it a little, like 1/8 turn. You will be sure it is tight enough but will be easy to remove...

On my 05 F150 4x4 with the 5.4,I use a 3/8 ratchet, swivel and 12" extension attached to a cup that fits the 820s Motorcraft filter and it comes off and reinstalls real easy.Wipe the base off,oil the new filter gasket, turn till snug then 1/8th turn more.I have never had a problem off or on. What is so hard about that? Filter tests show the Fram filter to be of lesser quality, filter media wise, than Motorcraft,I personally don't use Fram.

for the love of...well your truck... HAND TIGHT you will be pissed in about 3000 miles or when its time to get it off. hand tight is all it needs. make sure you put oil on the gasket before you install it.

oh and by the way don’t count on that little tray thing under the oil filter. it never works.

why did ford make the filter so hard to get at on my 2006??

my old 98 had the filter in front of the drivers front tire, right behind the behind, nice and easy to get at!

on my 2006 i had to remove the air intake duct on the motor and reach down from the top to get the filter off.

on a good note, my 98 4.6 and my 06 5.4, both take the same oil filter, so that was good, the idiot at the autoparts store told me they were diff and the new filter he gave me did not even fit on my 06 5.4!

i did manage to change oil and filter outside in the snow with no jack or ramps or anything, it was fairly tight to squeeze under the step bars to get the drain plug out! but i got it done, usually i use my dads hoist, but there was things in the way, so i just did it outside.
