yes the links do advance when you rotate the engine. It does take a good amount of engine rotation by hand to get the links lined up again. I wish we knew why it jumped timing on that side though. Glad you figured this out, I hope you are good to go when you start her back up. Let us know how it goes.

She's purrin like a kitten once again!!! Fixed the timing, turned it over by hands a few times more. Made sure the filter and vcts had oil in them. Good to go now.

Excellent. Did the timing actually jump the first time or did you have timing off due to the confusion on the phaser. If the timing was correct the first time, what did you do differently the second time before you started it and risked it jumping again?

Awesome! Glad to hear you figured it out and got her fixed. I know mine sounded like a whole new truck when I was done!

Great job. Too bad you had to go through opening her back up but your experience will help those others with this same problem. Congrats and go for a drive, you deserve it.

I think the chain had too much slack or the cam wasnt in the right spot and when it pulled it just slipped a tooth or two before tensioner got charged up. That why i pulled just the cam phasers and redid the chain and left the tenioners sealed.

Here she is now, this was right after fire up and the fan was still doing its thing

Sounds good brother. Your video reminded me that I need to go out and put my fan shroud, wheel well cover and skid plate back on. I left them off just in case I had issues. Think its about time I put them back on. Congrats on the repair.

That was a smart move on only removing the phasers and not let the tensioner let slack back in the system. Still makes me wonder how you avoid this happening when you do this job the first time. Seems like there should not ever be enough slack in a new chain for it to slip on start up. Almost seems like you have to pump up the tensioners before you start the engine. It seems like you did everything right, so I don't know why it slipped on you. Sorry for all the questions, but I know I'll be doing this at some point and I'd like to only do it once. Again, good job.
