Hey I'm looking for a cheap but decent CB radio set up. Any suggestions?

well, you could go buy the 30 dollar Cobra from walmart or a farm and fleet... BUT they arent very good... If you want a high quality radio, youll end up spending at least 100

I bought a midland 5001z off eBay for $43 w/ free shipping im pleased with it,if you want to talk skip your gonna need a linear amp and they ain't cheap

Ok. And I have a tool box in my bed, would I still be able to put a whip behind the cab?

i would mount it to the toolbox... (easier and doesnt tear up truck)

You dont need an amp to talk skip. When "skip" is happening the power of the radio really doesnt matter. You can talk skip on a stock 4 watt radio.

If anything, antenna setup (proper SWR) is more important when talking skip.

To the OP, look into getting a Galaxy 919

let me retract my previous statement, you can "talk" skip all you want and be heard by someone states away but if you want to receive and be heard get a linear amp. If all you want is to chat your buddys and locals on CB you dont need the linear. Truck stops usually have every antenna mount options there is to suit your setup.

Cobra is my favorite brand, but isn't the only good brand out there. Like an above poster said, make sure SWR is setup correctly for your particular antenna.
