Camper shell 3rd brake light wiring
I just purchased a used Leer shell for my '06 F150. I need help locating the supply wires to hookup the interior light and 3rd brake light.
I am hoping I dont have to run a wire to the battery for the interior light. I do have the tow package. The terminal on my 7 pin plug is only hot when the engine is running. I would like to be able to turn on the light without the key in the ignition.
Is their a wire for the 3rd brake light in the rear of the truck?

you could tap into the brake light wire for the 3rd brake. just wire the topper light to a constant hot with a switch in the cab, get a switch with a led indicator so that you will know it's off, so it won't be accidentally left on.
If you wire into the brake light, the 3rd lite will blink with the turn signal on the side I tap into. Pre 04 models had a factory wire (green) just for this application. I was hoping not to have to run wires to the front of the truck.
Thank you for your reply though!

that's how the place up here does it, i see 3rd brakes on topper blinking all the time. well if don't wanna run wires into the cab, then just run them to the hot wire and have a switch in the topper. we had that in our '78 and it was nice, camping in the back, oh the good ole days.
maybe this will help
