Question Cam Shaft/Crank shaft?

I want to change out my factory one but not really sure which way to go. Ive had people tell me cams and cranks are the same thing and others saying they are different. want some more power but not kill my mpg. any advice would be great. open to suggestions and recomendations.

Camshafts open and close the valves, crankshaft moves the pistons up and down. Do some research and come up with a question that we can answer.

Neither. Cams wont give you much gains on the 5.4 thats why theres not many out there. And if your puting a crank in youd be doining an entire engine build. Punching out the bores and using a stroker crank but thatd be some serious coin. Best power gain and depending on driving habbits better mpgs would be a super charger kit on these engines. What size are yer tires. Regearing will make it feel like you added alot more power but kill your fuel milage on the highway.

Cams would be cheaper. Crankshaft is what moves the pistons up and down. Cams open and close the valves. Super basics. I would do other things before a cam or especially a crank swap. Unless you do a stroker crank or a light forged crank it won't do anything really. Cams I wouldn't worry about because you have torque cams and that's what trucks need. Save up and do forced induction. My .02 correct me if I missed anything I'm on my phone.

I second that. Do some type of forced induction.

Thats fairly close to stock. Youve probaly got 355 gears. Heres a chart I got from a website im always refering to it at work. Yellow is high way green is close to stock and blue is preformance. The rpms are at 65 with od off. Gears are probaly the cheapest way to get the feeling of power like youve got sumthin under the hood.
