Got the cover off fairly easy today but as I feared the plastic fell into the oil pan.

I've started trying to use a peice of hose to get some suction on the piece and pull it out but so far just sucking up oil.

Also I noticed the driver side chain is ever so slightly loose and I can squeeze the tensioner in by hand noticeably easier then the passenger side. So I'm thinking of replacing both tensioners and maybe the guides but they seem to be in good condition with no noticeable wear.

$277 out the door for both sides tensioners and guides if I replace both sides. But wont mean much If I can't get the plastic out.

Might as well replace if your already in there. Why not drop the pan to get the plastic?

Haha, that's the way it goes sometimes! At least you don't have to worry about it anymore.
For what it's worth, I would replace those tensioners while you can. If you can push one in easily, it's not going to hold out much longer.

Got both tensioners and got a speeding ticket on the way back on poorly marked secondary road due to the main road being finished months ago but they narrow it down to 1 lane for some god forsaken reason known only to ODOT.

Crap looks like I need to replace the guides as well. Passenger side is still good I think but the drivers side looks like it cut into at least 1 a little so that probably also why that side is slightly loose.

Good job on finding the piece on the ground and getting the new tensioners. I would change out the guides as well while in there, you don't want to have to go in again. If the guides were in one piece and the original ones installed, I wouldn't worry about plastic pieces in the pan or the pick up screen. If they have been changed before then you really don't know if the PO cleaned out the pick up screen and it may be worth it to drop the pan and check. I used a diagnostic camera to check my pick up screen to verify there was no plastic pieces stuck in it instead of dropping the pan. Congratulations on getting this far now get it back together brother. Let us know how it goes.

done and the cover back on.

I hope to god I didn't mess up the timing but after spinning the motor over by hand it seems to be good.

That's a rip off. I got a set with all guides, tensioners, timing chain, and crank sprocket for like 150!

Good job, good luck with it. Hold the gas pedal down and crank for about 5 seconds, do that 3 or 4 times to build oil pressure up in the tensioners, then start the truck normally. Let us know how it goes.
