Sounds about right with what you have left to disconnect. When taking out the back bolts on the valve covers, I sat in the engine compartment and kinda rested my forehead on the weatherstrip near the cowl toward the windshield. Luckily I had the 2 inch 1/4 inch drive extension and I think I actually used a deep well 8mm socket and it was the perfect height so that I had room to take the bolt out. There is a grommet to hold them in once they are completely loose so that they don't get dropped.

Got the balancer off then had to run some errands so I didn't make much more progress.

I was hoping I could just pull the front bolts from the valve cover bit I guess I can try to get access to them all.

Just worried the more I tear into this the less likely I can get it back together and not have it leaking.

If you just prop the valve covers up after loosening the bolts up, that will help and you will not roll the valve cover gasket (i rolled mine when putting the valve cover back on and had to re-do the drivers side cover, that's the only leak I had). The rubber gaskets are reusable so don't worry much about leaks, just make sure you tighten everything back down. If you have the power steering pump off, then you are almost there, shouldn't take much longer. Keep it up brother.

I think I got all the bolts broke loose now with the exception of the valve covers which look corroded.

Do i need to move some of the wiring out of the way to get access? Been spraying the ones I can see with pb blaster.

What I would do for a garage right now instead of working outside with thunderstorms incoming this morning.

Weather Permitting I'm going to try to get the timing cover off tomorrow night and deal with the valve covers as needed.

What is the best way to pop the timing cover loose? it doesn't seem like it will just fall off.

Thanks

The first time I took mine off, I put a bolt back in a few threads and gave the cover a few pops with a rubber mallet from the side. The bolt was just to keep the cover from falling. If that doesn't get it off, then carefully go over it to make sure every bolt is removed.

I was actually thinking about the wiring last night for this, yes, you do need to unplug the in COPs and probably the injectors to move the harness out of the way. I took some long zip ties and held the harness out of the way so that I wouldn't have to fight them falling all over the place. It shouldn't be too bad because you are not totally removing the valve covers, just lifting them up. The front cover should be pretty easy to pop off like lewissa81 above says. just keep all the bolts in order. I don't have a garage either, I feel your pain in that one, I did mine outside in 100 degree weather, good luck, let us know how it goes.

If you have not started yet use your phone and take pictures of all the things you may have to take out so you can reference them when you start putting them back together! good luck!

Between work and storming its been a bit of a roadblock.

Tomorrow is supposedly going to be sunny and 80F so hopefully I can get the cover off and back on at least.
