"Is it Cam Phasers?" video to explain it all

Hi everyone,
When I got my F-150 I had a lot of confusion about cam phasers and what problems they have. When I went online looking most videos were either gone or lacking details. As time went by I spoke to more mechanics and owners and was able to diagnose my phaser noise. Now, I have produced a video that I hope will help all new or prospective owners to both diagnose and understand cam phaser knocking. Here it is!

I hope you all enjoy it!
Thanks.

I've had the truck since 140k, prior owner bought it at 66k. I still speak to him regularly. He said it started right at 70 and never stopped but never got worse. For me, it has done it since the day I bought it. Hasn't worsened or anything but it does sound a bit diesel-like sometimes. i had a very good mechanic that I do a lot of business with dig into her and he basically said "Yeah they are loud but whatever dude, runs great." I've got a friend with a 04 that does this every bit as loud as mine. He has 260,000 miles on it. Drive and smile!

When phasers fail it usually isn't immediately catastrophic. First you'll shake badly and throw a code, if it is ignored it'll start causing the engine safety shutdown. These trucks, despite their age, do a good job at self-assuring the engine doesn't shred itself. Some people still manage it but usually when your phasers actually go you'll really, REALLY know it. It'll sound like a can of marbles and drive like a turd before dying out. Then you've a choice: 3k for phaser and timing work, 5k for a new crate installed and all.
