Cam phasers and newer style head
#4
Did Ford ever redesign the cam phasers? Even if you buy a new one today, is it the same part that plaqued the trucks from the factory. I need a 5.4 for a truck I just bought and I'm trying to learn everything I can before I buy a reman, or a used one. I appreciate any and all info

I have not even heard the details of why 08 heads are better
I agree no one should go 50k without changing plugs. But If you have to get reman it would be nice to know all the details of improvements .
New plugs should scrap the TSB on sparkplug changes such as using anti seize .
But cleaning of carbon in cyl around tip never covered except by good people on here. .
Its too bad many people spent so much on those plug problems , every class action suit that I was grouped in came to nothing . I run on that history so I fought my own plug changes after mechanics leaned away from wanting to do it .
I have been in court fighting for fair treatment on injuries and have won against insurance companies but I was forced into it . I did not like it .
These forums can do so much by informing and leading us to mitigate our own damages . There should be a sparkplug sticky with good practices written as a guide as it comes up all the time . The 5.4l is intolerant of anything but a perfect installation of plugs/boots, dielectric grease , spark hole contaminants, torque etc.
A list of part numbers and engine improvements would make another great sticky, heads and why ,throttle bodies, vcts, phasors, fdmn module etc.
It would take someone smarter than me and more experienced. I have never had one of these heads in my hands to see differences in or experiment on . But that would really fall to the engine heads or race type people that tear the engines down all the time .
I have put an insert in and cleaned tip area out but it would have been nice to have one off to experiment on .
Good luck to you guys waiting for your checks , I hope I'm wrong and you get a fair amount . .
