Question Cam Phasers causing odd idle drop?

So I have noticed my good ole truck has been getting louder when it comes to the phaser tick/knock, this is something I have just been keeping an eye on and waiting for the day. I am thinking about working on it this weekend but I noticed something odd about it.

If I prop the throttle to about 800rpm where the tick is the worst I noticed that the rpm's will almost cycle and drop down to about 650rpm then back up. When the rpm's drop the engine runs rather rough and acts like it wants to choke out and die. I daily drive in rush hour traffic so this is concerning since it almost died on me once in traffic.

Does this seem to fall in line with cam phasers?
