Cam Phaser tick. Just a "noise" or will it lead to damage?

Default Cam Phaser tick. Just a "noise" or will it lead to damage?

I have a question about the seemingly rampant cam phaser/timing tick. Will this harm the engine if left alone? My truck has 114k on it and I've done all required maint. on it including the plugs (which was easier than doing the plugs on my 1999 5.4....at least i thought.) Other than the ticking/thumping my 5.4L runs perfect. I can live with the "noise" as long as it doesn't do any damage.........Thanks.

These engines have a "normal" ticking and a not-so-good ticking. If it idles warmed up like a powerstroke diesel, or if it is more of a rattle than a tick, yes it can cause damage. Best to have it checked and be safe rather than sorry.
