Will be interesting if they will fix everything.

True, I guess if it got to 135k miles and never had the plugs changed, that's not indicative of being well taken care of. The paint job really wasn't awful, and not a deal breaker, but just wasn't as nice as it looked in the pictures. No rust on the body. I was thinking rear main. It was definitely coming from higher up than the oil pan gasket.

Thanks for the CL links. That FX4 is really nice, but more than I want to spend. I'm only looking at trucks with 6.5' beds because I feel like I'll use the extra length.

I've also found a few options through the Canadian kijiji search engine that 5.0nly linked me to. It's just a long process getting videos to rule out cam phaser noise, and now I'm going to start asking for pictures underneath so I can see if there are oil leaks before I drive far to see a truck.

I know the 6.5 bed is hard to find. But there are a lot out there if your not in a rush. Like I said before, trust me you'll know when you hear a 5.4 with bad phasers, its un-mistakeable. These engines tick, click even knock a little and thats just normal:-)

Alright, so I'm still truck shopping. This is an 06 F150 King Ranch up in Ontario that I've been trying to get a video of from the dealer for about 2 weeks. It sounds to me like this one has pretty clear cam phaser noise, but I always like to get second opinions. I did find an 06 F150 KR up near Detroit that is perfect and no cam phaser noise, but the Canadian trucks are about $3k less than fair market for the Detroit truck and he's asking about $2.5k above fair market, so I want to at least do my due diligence on the Canadian trucks before trying to talk him down. Thanks, as always!

Crap, thought I changed it to Unlisted. Should be fixed now. Thanks for the heads up.

It definitely has phaser knock. Clear as day at 1:53 on the video.

Its so tough to tell in these videos but like 07 said 1:50ish in the video it does kind of have light phaser noise. Most that I've heard you can hear it pretty well in the front wheel wells and I didn't hear it there. I know you've heard it before but how long did they warm it up? Ect? I wish when dealers made these videos they wouldn't hold their camera right in the air from the fan.... It drowns out a good spot to hear the phaser noise. Anyway I would question that one as it did have that sound. Not bad yet.... if that's even what I was hearing.

Any videos I'm posting are after asking the dealer to warm the truck up for at least 30 minutes. Of course, I have no way of knowing whether they did or not, but just have to take their word for it. Yeah... it was really hard to get the video and pics from this guy, so not surprised he's not the greatest at making videos. I finally had to tell him "Hey, if you can't get me the video and pics today, I'm moving on. I feel like I've waited a fair amount of time (2 weeks) for this information from you."

At the very least it sounds like it may have a manifold leak but depending on the price it may be worth it to buy the truck and repair it a little later on down the road.

But THIS is a Phaser issue (From what I was told by a few users). On my old 09 5.4 F150. I did not keep the truck very long after I posted that video as I was to scared it was going to blow a hole in my wallet. But none the less definitely something you should watch out for. I went up to a local mechanic shop and said it could be anything from Phasers to Timing to Solenoids.. But Like I said I didn't want to take the risk and find out.
