Bad tires was the cause of my steering wheel vibrations. The tires were brand new but were total junk. The dealer put them on before I bought the truck but after I test drove it.

I went to Firestone, got 4 new tires and the issues went away.

It is not always related to bad tires or bad alignment. I have had a shake at 60+mph and I have had my alignment checked 3 different times at 3 different shops and all say it is spot on. I have had my "new" tires balanced and forced balanced and those are perfect.

My shake did not occur until I did my level kit and put 295's on. I've checked all the bolts and bushing and still can't find a cure.
ya mine just started last week.Leveling kit has been on since i got it about 2years ago if i remember. We had my truck at my buds shop today on the lift,bushing/tie rods are all fine,no play at all.Upper and lower control arms are perfect they said.Just to double check my friends opinion,we waited for the owner Dave(any certification thats out their for mechanic's to have,he has)to take a look and he looked over everything, including the drive shaft and all he looked at he said was perfect.

Then upon closer look at the tires,ya 3 of them are junk.Like i said before, their past the tread mark indicator so that don't help.We did rebalence the tires again and it helped.Like i also said, just waiting for my 35's to come in the mail(the tires i got were about 200cheaper online, than any place i found in my area.35's $851.00 for cooper discover stt. I do need an alignment dave said.i am just going to wait till my tires come in so they can mount, balance and do a alignment all at once. Thanks for all who chimed in,i will let ppl know how things turn out.

On both of my trucks that had lifts (including the current one) I eliminated the "shimmy" with a good stabilizer. Worked like a champ on both trucks

2008 F150 FX2 Sport

Had a bad steering wheel shake within a day or two of leaving the dealership when I originally bought it. They put 2 new tires on and re-indexed the other 2... still had the shake.

The shop finally checked the steering box and had to make adjustments to remedy the shake/vibration. Apparently the steering box components weren't adjust correctly allowing the front end to start oscillating (harmonics) which was causing the shake. Adjusting the dampener took care of the problem.

Hope this helps.

What year is your truck because as to date and many MANY others have joined in my venture, there are no upgradeable or performance type steering stabilizers for 04-08 f150 trucks. Fabtech makes one but it is specifically designed for a "lifted" truck, not leveled.

It's a 2001, and the other was a 1996 F150 (2WD). The 01 has a 2 in level lift, and the 1996 had a body lift, no suspension lift. I was treading thru google last night at work in searchof a stabilizer, I see what you guys mean. I only found the Fabtech like you stated

Here's some pics of them

Had the shake on mine too. It was a front tie rod that needs to be changed. After it was done and re-aligned, no more shaking.
