[quote=dre23;37699]I'm sorry Gunslinger...is that a decimal point in front of that 2MPG as in 2/10th's MPG extra??

So are you promoting the TBS as working or as being a waste cuz I'm not sure if you're suggesting that an extra .2 MPG means that the TBS is worth it or not cuz I could probably **** in my fuel tank and get an extra .2 MPG every now and then ?!

It is a decimal point. And it does mean 2/10ths. Which in my book, with gas prices what they are, is better than not getting the increase at all. So I call it worth it. Your mileage will be different.
And if you can do that, then perhaps some government officials need to pay you a visit and investigate you as a national energy resource.

Im sorry but to me 2/10 of an increase in MPG is not worth shelling out the money for a throttle body spacer. that extra 2/10 could have bee due to anything. You could have had the wind at your back for ten miles and you would see that difference. Mpg usually varies a bit without many extra factors as it is. Now if we were talking about seeing a consistent 5 extra mpg then it would be worth it.

i actually found out that my neighbor owns a truck shop (he just opened it) and he was telling me i should get a mass air intake (they'd build me a CAI to fit it specifically). i didn't even know what a MAI was lol. he told me a throttle body spacer would be a waste (like others have said here) and has convinced me not to buy one. as for chips/tuners, he told me to get that last so i could get one specifically tuned for the upgrades i'll be putting on my truck.

anyone else know of MAIs and have any specs on em?
would love to hear some experience!

The only advantage a TBS would provide in direct injected vehicles like these is raising the throttle body. This adds more available air inside the intake, improving response, not necesarilly horsepower. The only change I could notice in my wife's Jeep Liberty is at take off from a dead stop. No fuel mileage increase.

Thank You! I mean are you serious? 2/10ths of an increase extra?? Gunslinger, I'm not trying to flame at all so we are all cool, but even with gas prices as high as they are, this is an amount that you would probably NEVER notice.

dont walk, run as far as you can in the other direction.....if he wants to do a "mass air intake"...he will never get my money. Since your truck already has Mass Air, his suggestion makes no sense. Also, the newer SilverOak processors in the 3V engines are very sensitive to adjustments, if the kit isnt designed properly or the tune is not calibrated for the proper flow type of the CAI you choose, you are fubar. If you are to get a CAI and exhaust, get the tuner at the same time. Match your tune to your CAI...

it will be custom tuned to what i tell him.... that's why i'd get it.... instead of buying the generic off the shelf stuff tuner/chip. it'll be custom for me and that's what i'd need more so than the generic one

and what software will he be using? We all recommend SCT software and tunign work from either VMP or Troyer for a very good reason. Anyone who tells me that they will build a "mass air intake" needs to do some explaining and they better have some precise flow numbers and more experience than the guy who founded SCT, which is highly doubtful....and I know that.

maybe i stated that wrong. i meant he was going to install a mass air intake and build the CAI part. sorry if i said that wrong. it would be really hard for someone just to put together a MAI. lol. yeah he said he'd build a CAI for me that would suck in more actual cold air and not just hot air from inside the hood.

my bad guys!

there is no such thing as a Mass Air Intake. Most cold air intakes marketed for our trucks already pull in cold air....hint hint. Intakes like the Volant, S&B, and Banks Intake are already shielded from heat as they have specifically designed airboxes...it sounds like your neighbor likes your wallet.
